Safety Notice - Product Recall of

Certain SANYO Microwave Ovens

 

SANYO Sales & Marketing Europe GmbH (SANYO S&M) has announced that some SANYO Microwave Ovens (EM-C8787B UK2 and EM-C8787W) sold in the UK and Ireland may cause severe electric shock to the user during operation. This is due to some of the printed circuit boards within the internal control panel having electrical contact with the small buttons on the external control panel.

 

As the safety of customers is the highest priority, SANYO S&M would like to ask owners of the affected models to stop using their microwave ovens immediately and unplug the power cord. The company is also issuing a recall for all affected products, and delivering the message through a broad range of media organisations.

 

SANYO S&M would like to express our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused to the customers concerned.

 

1. Recall Model Information

EM-C8787B UK2 (Black Color)

EM-C8787W (White Color)

Sales period of affected units in the UK

From March 2010 to the first half of January 2012

Total number of affected units sold in the UK

8,156 Units

 

2. Nature of the Defect and Resolution Method

In some microwave ovens with the model number and serial number above, there is an insulation defect caused by the faulty plating of the operation buttons. As this poses a risk of electrical shock during operation, SANYO S&M is recalling the products concerned and giving owners a refund.

 

All other SANYO microwave oven models can be used without any concern.

 

3. SANYO's Recall Measures

(1) Advertisements are being placed in major newspapers advising owners of the affected products to stop using them immediately and unplug the power cord.

(2) This notice has also been put up on the SANYO European region website. (http://eu.sanyo.com/)

(3) A toll-free call centre has been set up to receive customer inquiries.

(4) Refunds of the purchase price of the product will be given to customers. Please contact to the call centre to arrange for a refund. 

 

4. Check the Model and Serial Numbers

 SANYO S&M would like to ask owners of SANYO microwave ovens to please stop using the products immediately, unplug the power cord and check the model number and the serial number on the back label
